The best UK supermarket loyalty schemes in 2026 (and the ones not worth it)

Tesco Clubcard, Nectar, Lidl Plus - we ran the numbers on what each scheme actually returns per £100 spent.

Loyalty cards are the closest thing British supermarkets have to a religion, and like most religions, the promises are rather bigger than the evidence.

We tracked a typical £400 monthly shop across the five biggest schemes for three months. Here is what actually landed in our pocket.

Tesco Clubcard

Clubcard Prices remain the strongest offer on this list, purely because the discounts are applied at the till rather than banked as points. Expect roughly £6-£9 back per £100 on a normal basket - more if you are disciplined about the yellow-label aisle.

Nectar at Sainsbury's

Nectar Prices has improved considerably, but the personalised offers are where the real value sits. Activate them every week or you are leaving most of it behind.

Lidl Plus

Genuinely good if you shop there weekly. Genuinely pointless if you do not - the coupons are spend-triggered and expire fast.

The verdict

Carry two cards, not five. The admin cost of the rest outweighs the return.
